More than ever our world needs connected people who are experienced in supporting grief work; who can support others to acknowledge and express their concerns about our world and the feelings they have about them; and who can support activists and change agents to have the resources and support they need to contribute to a life-sustaining world. By participating in this Work that Reconnects training, you will be resourced to support people in these ways.
We are seeking expressions of interest in attending this training (this will not be a commitment to completing the program). Please complete the form here: https://forms.gle/YHkVn8eKu1c8XWtA9
Experience of participation in the Work that Reconnects / Deep Ecology experiential work inspired by Joanna Macy is required.
In this training you will have the opportunity to:
- Practice facilitating processes in a team from at least two parts of the spiral of the Work that Reconnects (WtR).
- Receive guidance from program facilitators about different ways you can approach facilitation.
- Experience other parts of the WtR spiral (the parts of the spiral being: Coming from Gratitude; Owning and Honouring our Pain for the Earth; Seeing with New Eyes; and Going Forth).
- Reflect in groups on the facilitation of and participation in WtR processes.
- Gain tips and tools to be able to facilitate this work in safe and supportive ways.
- Discuss various topics related to facilitating this work, including: holding space and creating safety; addressing big emotions; bringing flexibility and authenticity to the work; and decolonising WtR.
- Connect with a community of practice that the facilitators will support to continue beyond this initial training.
The Work that Reconnects is a supportive framework to reawaken our connection to ourselves, each other and the world. It was developed by deep ecologist, activist and scholar, Joanna Macy, as a way to understand people’s feelings and empower them in the age of nuclear proliferation in the late 1970s. In recent years, the Work that Reconnects has become increasingly relevant to other contemporary issues including climate change crisis, loss of biodiversity, pollution and other environmental and social crises.
The Work that Reconnects provides an opportunity to understand and express both our concerns and our love for the Earth and our societies, and to (re)discover and give shape to our hopes. Through our remembering, we are able to go forth with new eyes and renewed purpose to continue contributing to a Life Sustaining Society.
